背单词，是为了improve your English，而不是为背而背（memorize for the sake of memorizing)。
所以（therefore)要证明(to prove)背得值（worthwhile)，不能只去数（count)背了的单词有几个，而要检测（check)你的英语水平是否有所提高（whether your English has improved)。
如果答案是肯定的（in the positive)而非否定（negative)，你背词的方法（your approach to the vocabulary)才能得到老鞋的肯定（my approval)。
注意：
可以说improve your English提高英语水平，也可以说your English improves英语水平提高。不是每个动词都可以这样运用自如！

likely：一切皆有可能
Anything is possible.

分别是土品牌和洋品牌的广告语，试推敲措辞（diction)的区别。
likely也是可能，老外极偏爱（favor)，所以我们也不妨拿来用，但要保持小心谨慎（keep cautious)。
It is possible that Chinese will replace English.
Chinese is likely to replace English.
Chinese is possible to replace English.
表达“汉语可能取代（replace)英语”，末句不对。
国家规定：某事可能干什么，不能说“A be possible to do B”，只能说“A be likely to do B”。
提请特别关注likely有一个迷惑性的外形（misleading/puzzling appearannce)，会使人误以为是（mistake it as)个副词什么的，因为like做动词为“喜欢”，做介词为“象”，后加ly，变成一个形容词，走的不是寻常路（not follow the common way)。
寻常路是如下（as follows)：名词后加ly为形容词（如manly, womanly分别指“爷们样的”和“娘娘样的”），形容词后加ly为副词（如quickly, readily与形容词意思相同，词性有异）。
表达“可能”的同门兄弟：may be, maybe, perhaps, probable等。
It may be puzzling.
Maybe it is puzzling.
Perhaps it is puzzling.
Probably it is puzzling.
may be是情态动词加BE，不是一个单词而是一双；maybe作为一个单词，为副词，与perhaps、probably性质用法相同。
名词是likelihood，自然类似于possibility，以及chance。
You should consider the likelihood/possibility/chance that the government will give misleading information.
你必须考虑这种可能性：政府会放出误导性信息。
有人会对chance有所质疑：不是“机会”吗？老鞋反问一句：你不是要比较opportunity与chance的区别吗？答：chance的本质是“可能性/概率”，而opportunity的本质——就是“机会”。
particular: 都是部分惹的祸

对于特定的学生而言情况可能又不一样。

看出来了吗？词的核心在于part。
generally是总体（这是我们背的所谓“一般”的本质），“特定的”是说总体中的某一部分，变成副词所谓“特别/尤其”也是强调“部分”与“总体/一般”的不同。
同理，将下面一窝搞定。
apartment 公寓（每家一部分，而非独门独栋者也）
We share an apartment with others, but not live in a separate house.
我们与人共住公寓，而非独立的房子。
participate 参加（参加我党，即成为我党一部分也，要不“参加”的短语叫take part in)
participate in the activities 参加活动
partial 偏袒的（倾向于一部分，而非从全局出发一碗水端平）
Try to be impartial in judging the students.
判断学生的时候请努力保持不偏不倚！
particle 粒子（此词屁股有“小”的意思，粒子是物的小部分）
