lead
据估计（It is estimated)，此词对大多数人会比较熟悉（be relatively familiar to most)，那就复习一下（have a review)：
A lead to B: A导致B。
Creative thinking leads to an innovative approach.
创造性的思维产生创新的方法。
lead A to B: 将Ａ引向Ｂ。
The new method may lead learners to a new stage.
这种新方法可能将学习者引向一个新阶段。
同样一词两用的还有contribute, adapt等。
We should contribute our youth and talent to the Party and the country.
我们应该将我们的青春和才华奉献给党和国家。
His rare personality contributes to his popularity.
他（老鞋的心中是说“许三多”同志）的罕有的个性促使他的广受欢迎。
简单地说“奉献”，上面的句子都会出现障碍（obstacle)。
It is somewhat difficult to adapt to a new way of thinking.
要适应一种新的思维方式，多少有些难。
I find it no easy job to adapt most people to my patterns of thinking.
老鞋发现使大多数人适应我的思维模式，绝非易事。
adapt to才是“适应”, adapt A to B却要说“使Ａ适应Ｂ”。

２。老鞋说的讲词汇同时讲语法，讲词汇为了应用，这就是例证：从应用的角度，光认识词不行。而讲搭配关系，其实就是语法。
occur
夜凉如水，万籁俱寂，你一个人正在静静地沉思。突然（suddenly, all of a sudden),
Some idea occured in your mind.心中出现一个想法。
Some strange feeling arose in your mind.心中产生某种奇妙的感觉。
Something appeared around you.周围出现了一些东西。
Something happened at the moment.那一刻发生了一件事。
很难也不用去说清这些区别（It is neither easy nor necessary to tell the difference)，反正都是表示“发生／出现”一类的意思。
occur有一个还常用的句型，值得一说：
It occured to me that I should speak out, whether there are listeners or not.
有一刻我突然想到(It occurs to sb that)：我应该把话说出来，不管有没有人听。
把occur理解成“在心里出现”，会比较好理解吧。
recur应该不会难。
The same situation recurred, to our surprise.
令我们惊奇的是，相同的局面再次出现。
current affairs是“时事”。
air/water/electric current是气／水／电流。
如果把cur视为“发生／进行”，则“时事”者，正发生的事情也；“流”者，行进中也。
